Twitter is a mix of instant messaging, blogging, and status updates. As such it allows for communities to form and dissolve at will. Connections with others are easy to find.

In the SQL Server community, there are a few common hashtags. They are:
- #sqlhelp – The tag you post when asking for SQL Server help, or replying to someone who’s asked for it.
- #sqlserver – A generic, all-around tag for SQL Server-related posts
- #mcm or #sqlmcm – The tag for the Microsoft Certified Master program, which is one of the most rigorous certifications around for SQL. Brent Ozar has a great explanation of the program.
Of course, other tags and topics rise and fall almost daily. Some recent examples (as of January 23rd, 2011) are SQL Saturday 65, SQL Rally, and Un-SQL Fridays.
